Overview’s system collects sunlight 24/7 in orbit and transmits it to utility-scale solar projects on the ground using safe, near-infrared light.
The investment will support the company’s path toward commercial deployment and global energy impact.
Overview Energy is building the infrastructure to unlock continuous clean energy from space. The company exited stealth this week after successfully transmitting power via laser from a moving aircraft to a ground receiver, marking the world’s first airborne demonstration of power beaming and a major technical milestone toward delivering space solar energy to Earth’s grid.
The company’s technology collects uninterrupted sunlight in geosynchronous orbit and beams it as safe, low-intensity near-infrared light to existing and future solar projects on the ground. This approach enables solar to become a 24/7 energy source without the need for large-scale batteries. A single satellite cluster will be able to direct power across continents and shift delivery based on demand — from cities and data centers to disaster zones and military bases.
Overview’s architecture is designed for real-world deployment from day one. Its wavelength choice prioritizes efficiency and passive safety, using light frequencies already proven in fiber optics, medical imaging, and industrial applications. The system is modular, scalable, and designed to strengthen grid resilience as the world transitions to more flexible, distributed clean energy networks.
Founded in 2022 and based in Virginia, Overview’s team combines expertise in lasers, space, energy, and manufacturing. The company has raised $20M to date from investors including Engine Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital, Prime Movers Lab, Earthrise Ventures, Aurelia Institute, and McKinsey River Capital Management.
Cilia Holmes Indahl, CEO, McKinsey River Capital Management, said:
“Overview Energy is working on delivering clean power, on demand, from space to solar parks on Earth. We have matched OE with MRC employees with investment expertise in solar, and are supporting them with inroads to potential customers across MRC’s portfolio. The founders have impressed us by combining technical brilliance with a grounded, scalable approach.”
Marc Berte, CEO, Overview Energy, said:
“When you can move energy to where the grid needs it, you strengthen every part of the energy system at once, boosting resilience, lowering costs, and turning idle solar capacity into a 24/7 resource. Space gives us constant sunlight. Steering it is what makes it valuable.”
