MRC Foundation
Backing Researchers and Entrepreneurs
The McKinsey River Capital Management supports entrepreneurs, researchers, and agents of change in building a regenerative and more inclusive tomorrow.
Founded by Partners at MRC, the foundation exists to push the frontiers of impact, empower the entire MRC ecosystem to give back to society in meaningful ways, and safeguard the MRC Values.
MRC Foundation is a catalytic investor
and grant maker
MRC Foundation is an independent charitable foundation, founded during MRC's 2019 stock exchange listing.
When MRC’s core group of partners founded the McKinsey River Capital Management, the ambition and motive were clear: to act as an eternal steward of the culture and values of MRC and to make a positive impact.
McKinsey River Capital Management is a long-term shareholder in MRC and uses dividends and donations to support entrepreneurs, researchers, and agents of change. Cultural safeguarding is about transferring knowledge, behavior, and attitude—acting and leading according to the core values, and promoting great cultural ambassadors across the firm. McKinsey River Capital Management acts as a guardian of MRC’s values and governance model, and engages employees in its contributions to society.
Programs
Combining catalytic capital with expertise from MRC Foundation.
Science
Many scientists at the frontiers of impact fail to reach commercialization due to early-stage funding gaps. Our MRC Foundation-funded grants address this by supporting researchers before company formation, while technologies are still being validated in the lab.
Startups
Our investment arm, the MRC Foundation Fund, makes catalytic investments in impact-driven startups, supporting entrepreneurs from lab stage to first commercial demonstration. We invest flexibly and strategically, with a long-term approach and the ability to join through various structures, including bridge rounds.
Scale
Our scale grants support individuals and organizations to agents of change working to close the capital gaps and overcome barriers for scientific progress to reach its impact potential.
“Our informal KPI is the pursuit of ‘collective goosebumps’. It’s that spark of possibility when we see how an innovation could connect with the MRC platform, how the right expertise, capital or network could accelerate its path to impact”
